Summer 2026 Reading Challenge
Unplug, Relax, and Rediscover the Joy of Reading
This summer, we invite you to slow down, step away from screens, and reconnect with the simple pleasure of reading. From June 1st, 2026 through August 31st, 2026, we’ll be hosting a fun and flexible Summer Reading Challenge designed to encourage mindfulness and intentional downtime during the busy summer months.
At the heart of the challenge is a 25-square reading bingo card filled with different reading prompts to inspire you to explore new genres, authors, and stories.
Some examples include:
A predicted 5-star read
A modern retelling of a classic novel
A summer romance
A book set in a country you've neved visited
A book that takes place at the beach
The goal is not perfection or pressure — it’s simply to make more space for reading, imagination, rest, and enjoyment this summer.
Why a Summer Reading Challenge?
In a world of constant notifications, scrolling, and digital overload, reading offers a chance to slow down and recharge mentally.
Reading may help:
Reduce stress
Improve focus and concentration
Support better sleep habits
Encourage creativity and imagination
Increase empathy and emotional awareness
Provide a healthy break from screens
Foster connection with others
It can also become a calming ritual — whether you’re reading on the patio, at the beach, in a hammock, during travel, or before bed.
How the Challenge Works
The best part? You can make the challenge work for you.
There are no strict rules, no pressure, and no “right” way to participate. The goal is simply to have fun and read more than you otherwise might.
Option 1: The Full Bingo Card (“Full House”)
For avid readers or anyone wanting a bigger challenge:
Try to complete all 25 prompts on the bingo card by the end of August.
You can choose one book per square or get creative if a book fits multiple prompts.
This is a great option for readers who love setting goals and exploring many different types of books.
Option 2: Complete a Bingo Line
For a more relaxed challenge:
Complete one full line across, down, or diagonally.
This keeps the challenge manageable and approachable, especially for busy schedules.
Option 3: Pick Your Favourite Prompts
Not interested in bingo rules? No problem.
Simply choose the prompts that sound the most fun or inspiring to you.
The challenge is meant to feel enjoyable, not overwhelming.

Ideas for Making Reading Part of Your Summer Routine
If you’ve fallen out of the habit of reading, small changes can help make it feel easier and more enjoyable.
Give the following a try:
Reading for 10–15 minutes before bed
Making a goal of reading 5-10 pages per day
Bringing a book to the beach or park
Replacing some evening screen time with reading
Listening to audiobooks while walking or driving
Creating a cozy reading space at home
Starting a mini book club with friends or family
Having a book swap with friends
Even a few pages a day can add up over the course of the summer.
Creating Moments of Calm
The Summer Reading Challenge is not about reading the most books — it’s about creating more moments of calm, curiosity, imagination, and intentional rest. Whether you read one book or twenty-five, this challenge is an opportunity to reconnect with stories, reduce screen time, and support your mental well-being in a simple and enjoyable way. So grab a book, find a sunny spot, and let this summer become a season of slower moments and meaningful pages. Happy Reading!
